Why Active Collagen?
UK's No.1 Sports Recovery Collagen
Formulated specifically to promote recovery from exercise and injury.
The amount of time it takes for your muscles to recover from exercise depends on your fitness levels and the difficulty of your training. The volume, intensity, and duration of your training also all play a role in determining how taxing it is on your body.
Collagen is the primary structural protein in the human body and is abundant in our muscles, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, bones, even our skin, hair, and our nails too. From our early 20s and as our activity levels increase, the rate of collagen production starts to decrease; by up to about 1.5% per year… every year!
Active Collagen contains two clinically proven Bioactive Collagen Peptides®, which, along with the additional vitamins and minerals, contribute to the maintenance of ligaments & tendons, soft tissue repair, and protein synthesis.
Connective tissue like ligaments and tendons require elasticity and strength to perform their functions properly, TENDOFORTE® Bioactive Collagen Peptides® support these fibres and aid in their recovery, maintaining the flexibility and rigidity they need to perform and reduce the risk of injury.
As active people, our skin is often exposed to cold, wind, UV radiation as well as sweat or chlorine which can damage the layers of skin and lead to further collagen degradation. VERISOL® Bioactive Collagen Peptides have been clinically proven to support our skin from within the extracellular matrix, increasing elasticity, hydration, and reducing signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles.
So, with Active Collagen, not only will you FEEL great, but you will LOOK great too!
The Benefits
A daily collagen supplement like Active Collagen not only provides the body a high-quality bioavailable source of collagen building amino acids, but it has also been proven to stimulate production again by up to 65% in just the first 56 days.
Daily supplementation with Active Collagen has proven to reduce the risk of soft tissue injuries. Numerous studies have shown how our Bioactive Collagen Peptides® also optimises the recovery from injury. Read the research carried out by the Australian Institute of Sport on Achilles Tendinopathy.

Is Active Collagen vegan friendly?
Unfortunately, our collagen products are not suitable for vegetarians or vegans. The Bioactive Collagen Peptides used across our range of collagen sports nutrition are sourced from pasture-fed cattle.
It’s our mission to support athletes and active people the world over, however currently, there simply isn’t a viable plant-based alternative to collagen peptides. Despite this, many of our customers and athletes who are vegan, or vegetarian make an informed choice to forego this restriction and choose to consume our collagen products for the performance and recovery gains.
This is very personal choice, and we are always happy answer any questions you may have. Alternatively, for vegan and vegetarian friendly products, do check out our range of wellness products: active greens, active balance, active berries, and active vitamin D3.
When is the best time to take collagen supplements?
We recommend taking collagen supplements immediately post-exercise; within 30 minutes. The reason for this is that there is good evidence to support it and secondly because it forms a natural part of an effective recovery process by addressing micronutrient intake and hydration as well as protein re-synthesis.
It’s all about creating simple, cost effective, and healthy habits that optimise recovery and performance!
What is collagen?
Collagen is the primary structural protein found in the human body and it accounts for over 30% of total body protein. It’s the scaffolding for the skeleton and the glue that holds the body together. We find this collagen protein in our hair, skin, and nails but also throughout the rest of the body, including bones, teeth, muscles, ligaments, tendons and even our internal organs.
What is a collagen peptide?
A peptide is a shortened chain of naturally occurring amino acids, some of these are essential for the human body and some are non-essential. We can get these amino acids from our natural diet. However, in many cases, we simply can’t get enough of them through our food to maintain the required levels in our bodies for optimal function. This includes key essential amino acids glycine and proline.
Collagen peptides offer specific physiological benefits by stimulating natural body functions. They pass through the intestinal wall and accumulate in the blood after only 15 minutes to be distributed to the connective tissues of the body.
The reason for this is the short chain length of the peptides, their low average molecular weight and their naturally high bioavailability.
Why do you use collagen from a bovine source?
Here at U Perform, we are science-led and evidence-backed in everything we do, which is why we chose to use premium grade, specific bovine collagen peptides across our sports recovery nutrition range. Whereas many of our competitors use only marine collagen.
Bovine sourced collagen is abundant in Type I, II and III collagen, the three most abundant collagen types in the human body. Furthermore, both cattle and humans are mammals and thus share almost identical DNA profiles which is critical for the bioavailability of collagen supplements.
Marine collagen supplements, however, are only rich in Type I collagen and there is also little to no significant evidence to show the effectiveness of marine collagen supplements for the repair and maintenance of connective tissues, joints, and bones in the human body. This is partly due to the collagen source having to cross a species barrier effectively.
Almost all the proven research evidence on collagen available today is based upon bovine sourced edible collagen supplements.
What does Informed Sport certification mean?
Each of our three signature collagen products is fully certified and batch tested under the Informed Sports programme. This means that every batch is pre-market tested for banned substances and contamination of any kind.
Products undergo rigorous testing using ISO 17025 accredited methods to provide the highest level of assurance for athletes. For further information about the testing process, please visit informed-sport.com
Both our co-founders represented Great Britain at elite levels, Greg at two Olympics, Greg & James at World & European Championships... so they both understand & value the importance of products that have been banned substance tested.
